The National Capital Commission (NCC) today announced the Rideau Canal Skateway is now closed for the season due to mild temperatures that have melted the ice faster than expected.

Fortunately, Winterlude – Ottawa's annual winter carnival was able to stay open for the three weekends it was scheduled.

The Rideau Canal Skateway opened for the 48th season on January 5, 2018 and hosted 35 skating days.

Approximately 25,500 people visited the canal each day it was open this year.

The NCC is warning people to stay off the canal due to unsafe ice conditions.
