Ottawa Hospital Board of Governors rejects NCC's Tunney's Pasture proposal

Tunney's Pasture, the current site of thousands of federal government workers and the NCC's preferred location for the Ottawa Hospital's new Civic campus.

The board of governors of the Ottawa Hospital have unanimously rejected the National Capital Commission's (NCC) proposal to build a new hospital (Civic campus) at Tunney's Pasture.

That site was recommended by the NCC last week as the most suitable location based on the comparative analysis of the 12 potential sites in the Ottawa area.

The hospital’s board released a statement Tuesday saying it could not “in good faith support Tunney’s Pasture as the future location for the Civic Campus.”

The board's concerns include: assess to the site, costs of demolishing existing government buildings, displacing federal public servants and the time required to preparing the land and build a new building.

The hospital prefers the new Civic campus be built across the street from its current location on Carling Avenue.

Critics of that location say it takes away valuable space from the Central Experimental Farm.

More to come.
