2018/19 Newsblog Term 6 Week 8

Hello All

Happy holidays!  This is the last blog of this school year and it comes with all our thanks for the very many gifts, donations made on our behalf to worthy causes and, particularly, the written messages of appreciation and thanks - it means a lot to us all that the service we give to the community is valued by you.

There are no term dates this week -  keep alert for the long, pre-start of term newsblog coming in the last week of August (the one I recommend you getting a cup of tea and a snack for before you sit down and read it:)) - this will have the dates for the year in it - in response to parent/carer requests for as much notice as possible.

Message for Y3 and Y4 Parents (from September 2019)

To help build upon our reading display within school, we are looking for pictures of any children in year 3 or 4 in their 'extreme' reading locations throughout the holidays! (Remember 'extreme' but safe)
Please email these to the office and we can print them out in September or simply bring in the photos for us to use in September!
Many thanks

The Year 3 and 4 team

Dinner Orders via Parent Pay

Just a reminder that dinner bookings can now be made for September 19 right up to October half term. New starters will get a Parent Pay code sent home once started to book for the second week of the new term onwards.

Message from the Eco-Committee

Thank you to everyone who has donated crisp packets for recycling over the last few months. We have had an overwhelming response from families of Tadpole Farm and a huge quantity of crisp packets to box up. They have all been sent off for recycling to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and we're so pleased that Tadpole Farm have been able to support this amazing cause.
Please do not send anymore crisp packets as we have boxed up our final donation for this year. Please watch this space for other ways to help our Eco-Committee next year!
Many thanks from the Eco-Committee

Parent Report Feedback - Summary

As promised last week, the Senior Leadership Team have looked through the feedback.  Overwhelmingly, the comments are positive and supportive...

I think it is lovely to see members of staff to great you each morning including the principal and deputy. Tadpole is a very friendly atmosphere where my child feels valued and reassured daily. I absolutely love the regular commutation about event's and information concerning our children's education. Thank you so much for all the hard work throughout 2019.

I recommend the school to anyone I speak to about it as I can’t speak highly enough of the lovely nurturing nature of the school and it’s staff. My daughter has had so many opportunities in the short time she’s been at the school it really is second to none

Just continue the excellent communication from school to home. Its invaluable

Some parents requested specific feedback to them as individuals and I will aim to go through these over the holidays and reply to you individually.

Some generic comments that we have discussed were:-

It would be good if you asked parents for feedback based on all aspects of the school. Eg communication, teachers, office staff, lunch time options, lily pad, parent support, parking. It would also be good if you asked parents if they have any suggestions to improve things at the school.

We are more than happy to receive any comments at any time on any aspect of school life - the question that this was a reply to was intended to invite comments on any aspect of school life, apologies if this wasn't clear - please email to jane.leo@tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk if you have any thoughts or suggestions to share.

Sometimes it can take a while to get a reply back from email communication. I don’t know if you have a policy on returning calls or replying within 24 hours, but something like this could be appreciated by parents.

We don't have a policy but we do endeavour to be as responsive as possible.  The vast majority of emails and calls are responded to the same day but we will take this comment on board and consider where we could improve.

I am concerned as a parent from outside the village on the parking situation. I am sure there are many discussions and just wanted to add my concern.

We will be keeping parking constantly under review as the year progresses - we appreciate how difficult it can be to park around any school and will be promoting initiatives for other ways of getting to school.

So far so good for what the school is doing for our children. Please keep it up . The only thing needs improving is have more family activities yearly. Otherwise most of things are perfect

Thank you for your suggestion about more family activities - we are planning some more of these so look out for the suggestions as the new school year starts.

The only thing I could think about to improve are lunch breaks. It is a long hour and lots of incidents happen during this time. It would be nice if older children could help with supervising younger ones.It would help with confidence in younger children as well as with safety while they play together. Everything else is great and I mean it. The Staff, atmosphere and events as well as school way of teaching and caring for children is absolutely fantastic. Massive Thank you, to everyone working in or for Tadpole Farm Academy :)

We have already planned a change to lunchtimes from next year.  There will be staggered lunchtimes for different year groups as an experiment to see if that helps with the usage of the outside space and how crowded it can become, depending on how long children take to be served and eat. More news as term begins.  The older children do help with younger ones - we have a team of trained Pupil Sports Leaders, who took up their roles towards the end of this term and they have already had an impact on leading play - they have been trained in supporting children having positive experiences in school and will be working on further awards to help them fulfil their role.

2019 World Press Photo winners in Ottawa

If you are a news junkie you will want to head over to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa to see the winners of the latest World Press Photo contest.

Photographs on a variety of topics from around the world are on display and they bear witness to the events of the last year.

“We are honoured to present the World Press Photo – Exhibition 2019, which captures the world in which we live, as seen through the eyes of the world’s best photojournalists,” said James Whitham, acting director general of the Canadian War Museum. “Whether disturbing, compelling, tragic or captivating, the winning images bring to life collective and personal experiences that matter to humanity and to the planet.”

The World Press Photo Contest is the leading international competition for professional press photographers, photojournalists and documentary photographers. Awards are given out in eight categories: contemporary issues, general news, the environment, nature, long-term projects, portraits, spot news, and sport.

The winning photographs are on display in the War Museum’s Barney Danson Theatre from July 19 to August 11, 2019. Admission is free. Following its presentation in Ottawa, the exhibition will travel to Montréal, Toronto and Chicoutimi.

Parent Report Feedback Responses
Thank you to the 105 people who responded to our request for Parent Report Feedback and for the overwhelmingly positive comments that you shared with us.  Thank you also to those of you who gave us suggestions for things which could make things better for your children and you as families. The comments closed on Friday (though you are more than welcome to email us at any time with suggestions, pop in and chat with concerns or share ideas you have with any of us - we really are reflective and open to considering all views).  As mentioned last week, the Local Board have generously suggested a prize for one lucky respondent and that person, selected by random number generator software is... the parent of Mionie Y5… congratulations - please pop in and pick up your prize on Tuesday.
The staff and leadership team will be looking at all the responses and I will add an initial summary to next week’s blog.

Reading Books from School
Thank you to those of you who have found some of these books trying to sneak a holiday away from school by hiding in your bookshelves! The children should still bring book bags this week as there are items to go home and some books still to be collected.  Thank you.

Church at Tadpole Garden Village – Summer Special
If you’re at a loose end during August, why not come along to school on Sunday 11th August at 4pm for fun, games, craft and puppets.  Bring a picnic tea so we can get to know one another better too.
Our regular monthly service will be back at 4pm on Sunday 8th September.
In the meantime I hope you all have an enjoyable and relaxing summer holiday

Uniform, Book bags/rucksacks etc

The school website has uniform links on this page - http://www.tadpolefarmcepa.co.uk/parent-pages/uniform/

For YR - Y2, the children should have book bags rather than rucksacks as these are more easily stored.

For Y3 - Y6 the children may bring in messenger bags/backpacks but these need to be small - just enough to hold an oversized A4 workbook - there is not much peg space so slim bags are best.  In these year groups children may bring a small pencil case - must be able to fit in a shallow tray; coloured pencils (no felt-tips or Sharpies please); pencils (HB) and handwriting pen (blue - Berol pens work well for improving handwriting).

For all children - Jewellery should be kept for home use though small ear studs (not rings) and a watch may be worn. If hair is past shoulder length we suggest it's better put up in some way - hair accessories should be school colours only (blue/white) and any bows should be small please (bows such as the brand Jo-Jo are great for parties etc, but not for school please).  Could you also keep animal ear headbands for home too as we seem to have had an explosion of those!

Message for All September 2019 YN and YR Parents

If you have not done so already, please complete the following data form ready to start with us in September. Thanks to all of those who have already responded to the email. The link to the google form is below:

Lost Property

This will be laid out after school at the front of school on Monday - all named items have been given back to their owners but there is quite a lot unnamed items - do please take a look.  In addition we have these items handed in but no child recognises them… maybe you do? Ask your child to pop to the school office if any of these items belong to them.

Re below - think the people who sent this mean the event is Tuesday 13th August as date wrong initially hence black correction strip, but it doesn't quite line up as they sent it to us - apologies.

Annual Pupil Reports
The annual pupil reports were sent home on Friday in paper format.  Last year, for
families who needed more than one copy, we printed out duplicates and made up duplicate packs but some of these were not collected/needed.  Please could I ask that you send me an email if you would like a duplicate pack and state whether you would be happy for this to be by email, printed and collected from school or printed and posted.  We will keep these details on file and use them next year. Any requests will be dealt with this week.
We will be investigating whether we can do everything via email next year to be more environmentally friendly and to save paper costs.  This is one of the questions on the parent report feedback form which you can access via this link https://forms.gle/huk2N2aAUUQFNP579.  We would very much appreciate you taking the time to complete this form and the Local Board have kindly offered a prize of wine and chocolates to one randomly selected person who gives their feedback by Friday 19th July… sadly, I can’t enter, but you can… get clicking that link!!

Reading Books from School

This week the teachers will be reading with your child and collecting their books in ready for the summer holidays - so we can have a good sort out and repair session. However, we have noticed that some of our school books have gone missing! Please can we ask for you to have a look for any books that might have left at home and that they are returned back to school this week, ready for September.  All books are stamped with the school name.

Want to learn to play the guitar?

Tom (our guitar teacher) and Lucas showed off their guitar skills this week to Year 4. If your child would like to learn how to play the guitar, then please come to the office to collect an application form or see last week’s blog for details. Tom will be back in September to perform to the rest of the school.

Message for New YN and YR Parents 2019

Do you have a child starting in YN or YR in September 2019?  If so, come along to our coffee/tea morning on Tuesday 16th July at 9:00 - 10:30 to meet others in the same situation.  Even if you already know us well, come along to support those new to our community. Thank you to Mrs Salter for organising the event.

Staff Updates

Mrs Longhurst will be returning to school for the last few days of this term - Thursday 18th July onwards.  We have recruited new Teaching Assistants and Playleaders and will be interviewing for new Business Support staff at the end of July.
From September, I will be spending some time working across the Academy Trust each week, leading on developing Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) provision across the Trust and so, if you need to see the Principal, it will be either John Spencer or myself as John, in his new role as Deputy Principal, and I, as Principal, will be sharing the role of meeting with and supporting families. John will also be taking on the role of Designated Safeguarding Lead and I, along with Alison Flynn, Emma Holt and Niki Wilding will fulfill the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead roles - any safeguarding concerns can be discussed with any member of this team.

Picking Up Your Child from September 2019

This year we have facilitated older siblings going to the classroom door of younger siblings to help you at pick up time, so you only have one door to go to.  Next year, a substantial number (over 45 in YR 2019 alone) of siblings will be in the school and so we are going to suggest the following:-
  • Parents to collect from class of youngest sibling first
  • Older siblings (up to Y3) will wait with staff until you come to their exit to collect them
  • Y4 and above - please agree a meeting point with your child within the school grounds, unless they have written permission to walk home alone.

Year 6 Leavers Assembly and Celebration

On Wednesday 17th July, our Year 6 class have got their leavers assembly: a celebration of their time at Tadpole Farm and the end of their time in primary school. Parents and Carers are  welcome to join us from 2:30 to see the children give their goodbyes to the school.
We would love for you to join us!

Following that, Y6 have a Celebration Party - kindly financed and supported by FOTF - with bouncy assault courses and BBQ. This event starts straight from school at 3:30pm  and finishes at 6:00 pm - please ensure they either have permission to walk home or come and collect them at this time. They may bring clothes to change in to if they wish.
